Discussion about Jon O'Bir - Music Database

It's only fair that I give a short review on the follow up album by Neil aka Jon as his first attempt was all-in-all a success. Again this is an album with the significant involvement of Rob Stevenson (Activa), similar Balearic vibes are carried through, yet a few of these tracks have a bit more 'punch' despite the overall tempo of 132/134 which is less than "From Within" that frequently hit 138. What I am trying to say is that tracks like "Found A Way" have a main room/club feel straight of the bat, furthermore not 1 track on this album reaches that magic 138BPM which is symptomatic of this era of the Trance scene.Stand out tracks are "Found A Way" which received a banging Tech Trance remix from JOC and "Perfect As You Are"; both are vocal tracks and emphasise that some originality has been lost on this album as usually I should be mentioning a souring Trance anthem maybe? However the title track "Music Database" is a cracker; deep, euphoric and really encapsulates his style very well, as does "Back For More". His collaboration with Solar Movement (again Rob Stevenson) is a highly underrated track, and it didn't see the light of day as a single release just like "Sparc" from the first album. I'm not sure why this is so, and it means that unless you want a hard copy just make sure you purchase the Extended Album as this track is a real treat in it's Extended form; genuine, original, euphoric Trance.Unfortunately there is a real bogey track on here which even had it's own single release - "Let Go", which is exactly the kind of Trance/Progressive that I hate; male vocalist and no originality, this is the Above & Beyond-esque cheesy male vocal anthem which just annoys me plain and simple I've got no time for garbage like this. Which is a shame because Sonic Element is a very good producer and I would recommend his releases and remix discography too.On balance one really bad track can be skipped, a few others like "Never Enough" and "Something To Me" are ok, "I Am Yours" is solid and again features one of my favourite vocalists of all time so perhaps a bit biased there. Stand out tracks have been mentioned so again I wish we used an out of 10 rating system here as it's perhaps a 8.5/10, not quite as good as the first album due to the real bogey track but a very easy listen.
